Alabama Gulf Coast Regional Sewer Supply District

As the economy tightens and funding for needed projects becomes even more difficult to obtain, it makes sense for governments, public entities and private citizens to join together in a cooperative effort to meet the growing infrastructure needs of the Mobile area. For this reason, Mobile Area Water and Sewer System (MAWSS) and the Utilities Board of the City of Chickasaw, have joined together to form the Alabama Gulf Coast Regional Sewer Supply District (AGCRSSD).

AGCRSSD is working towards a regional wastewater treatment facility that would serve Mobile County and its projected growth more cost effectively and efficiently than having each utility operate separate systems. A regional effort also offers greater protection for our coastal environment by improving water quality within local tributary streams.

A feasibility study, funded in part by EPA, supports the idea and proposes using the Alcoa industrial property on Blakely Island as the site for the phased construction of the facility.  Other area utilities are being urged to join AGCRSSD. Additional information is available at the link below.
