The Board of Mobile Area Water and Sewer System (MAWSS) is postponing its December Board meeting until Friday, December 15. The change is being made to accommodate unexpected conflicts in Board members’ schedules. The public meeting, held at MAWSS Park Forest Plaza, 4725 Moffett Road, begins with a discussion at 1 p.m. followed by the formal meeting at 2 p.m. Bid openings, usually done before the meeting, will take place at the original date and time, December 4, at 12:30 p.m.
Board members are expected to take action on the 2018 Operations and Maintenance Budget and proposed 5 percent rate increases for 2018 and 2019. The increases are needed to fund the repair and replacement of aging infrastructure, keep drinking water safe, prevent sewer overflows, maintain a high level of service to customers and meet regulatory requirements that better protect public health and the environment.
If approved, the average customer using 5000 gallons of water a month would see an increase of approximately $2.25 a month in 2018 and $2.70 in 2019. Minimum bills, using 2500 gallons or less, will see an increase of $1.43 a month in 2018 and $1.35 in 2019.
MAWSS does not receive any tax dollars and is totally funded by rates.
