Dear Potential Program Participants',

Happy New Year!

It is the intent of the MAWSS Board to provide equal access to each large, small, and disadvantaged business that desires to do business with the Board of Mobile Area Water and Sewer System. It is also the intent of the Board to develop a good faith effort with obtainable goals and MAWSS Office of Supplier Diversity gears the Mentor Protégé Program to support small businesses.

Many small businesses have outstanding expertise in their industry, but simply don't have the capacity to perform the work as a prime contractor. For instance, many small businesses are limited by small personnel, bonding capacity, startup costs, equipment, financing, or the ability to mobilize as needed to work in other geographical areas. While some small business contractors have that capacity, they don't have past performance or expertise in a particular area of work. Likewise, many large businesses were simply not willing to work for a small business as a subcontractor.

To support efforts to address those industry barriers, MAWSS introduces the 2019 Mentoring Program. Small businesses will receive a year of coaching and technical assistance from regional experts at no cost. The program goal is to match stronger small business with large businesses for future MAWSS Projects and to improve prime and subcontractor relations.

Participating companies are required to attend a monthly session (typically 2 hours). If you are interested, please send a short bio about yourself and your company to supplier.diversity@mawss.com. Spaces are limited and companies selected will receive confirmation no later than February 8th. Bios are due on Thursday, January 31st.
