Employee Benefits

MAWSS offers our employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to provide benefits coverage that meets the needs of you and your family. 

Benefits are available to employees and their dependents, including children and spouses. Benefits are effective 60 days after hire date. 

Health and Dental Plan 

Health Plan and Dental Plan coverage is provided to all full-time employees through a preferred provider option (PPO) with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama. The employee and the Company share the cost of this benefit. The employee's contributions are before-tax contributions. 

Life Insurance Plan & AD&D Insurance 

Life insurance coverage is provided to all full-time employees based on their base pay. The Company pays the cost of this benefit 

Accidental Death/Dismemberment Insurance is included with the life insurance plan. 

Vision Plan 

Vision coverage is available. The employee and the Company share the cost of this benefit. The employee's contributions are before-tax contributions. 

Flexible Spending Plan 

Health Care Spending Account A flexible spending account that is designed to help pay for out-of-pocket health and dental expenses. 

Dependent Care Assistance Program

A flexible spending account which allows employees to set aside up to $5,000 pre-tax for child care expenses 

Short-Term Disability 

Employees are covered for 60% of employees' base pay after 60 days of total disability. The Company pays the cost of this benefit. 

Long-Term Disability 

Employees are covered for 60% of employees' base pay after 6 months of total disability. The Company pays the cost of this benefit.

Retirement Plan 

The Retirement Plan is a defined benefit retirement plan with the State of Alabama Retirement Systems. For detailed information on the retirement plan, visit the State of Alabama Retirements Systems homepage at www.rsa-al.gov 

457 (b) Deferred Compensation 

(Contributions and earnings may be pre-tax, post tax or a combination of both.) 

For 2017, you may contribute up to $18,000 per year. If you are age 50 or older, you may contribute an additional $6,000 (total $24,000) per year. Available through EMPOWER Retirement Solutions. Employees may enroll at any time during their employment. Payments are made through payroll deduction. 

Employee Assistance Program 

This program is available at no cost to the employee. This program provides assistance for employees and their immediate family members in the event of an emotional, family, legal, medical, substance abuse and/or financial problem.

Education Assistance and Reimbursement Program 

The Education Assistance and Reimbursement Program provides financial assistance for employees to support endeavors in acquiring additional knowledge and skills. There is a $3,000 annual maximum benefit for certification programs for both undergraduate and graduate work. For undergraduate work, you must receive a grade C” or better or a “Pass”, to receive 50% of your requested payment, up to the maximum allotment. For graduate work, you must receive a grade B” or better, to receive 50% reimbursement of your requested payment, up to the maximum
