Welcome
to the Pretreatment Department
The Pretreatment Program sets uniform requirements for direct and indirect
contributors to the wastewater collection and treatment facilities of
the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System (MAWSS). This program aids MAWSS
in complying with all applicable state and federal laws.
Under the "Pretreatment Program Rules and Regulations," non-domestic
contributors to the wastewater facilities of MAWSS are classified and
then regulated through contracts with MAWSS. The Pretreatment contract
authorizes discharge to the wastewater collection and treatment facilities,
establishes monitoring and enforcement activities, sets specific limits
and designates reporting schedules. Those contributors that do not to
come under the Pretreatment Program are regulated through the enforcement
of the general requirements as shown in the "MAWSS Policies and Procedures
Handbook."
The primary emphasis of the Pretreatment Department is to protect the
wastewater collection system and sewage treatment plants. To that end,
we concentrate on minimizing grease from food service facilities and
heavy metals from industry.
