TROUBLE IN THE TOILET

1.
INLET VALVE - lets water into the tank. If you hear a hiss or
a squeal, try adjusting the float first. Then check this valve -
it could need replacing. If the valve is bad, you'll find water
leaking into the overflow tube.
HOW TO FIX IT: Get a new inlet valve at your local hardware
store and follow directions carefully. Make sure you shut off the
water supply and flush the toilet first.
2.
FLOAT - If the tank is full, but your water keeps running, pull
up on the float. If the water stops running, you need to adjust
the float.
HOW
TO FIX IT: It may be as easy as bending the float down. But
be careful - sometimes they break.
3.
STOPPER FLAP - should fit tightly over the bottom of the tank.
If it doesn't, the tank will not refill and you'll have a constant
flow of water. (The food coloring test will show you if you have
a problem here.)
HOW
TO FIX IT: Get a new stopper flap at your local hardware store
and follow directions carefully. Helpful hint: Make sure the new
flap seats real snug on the hole in the bottom of the tank.
