MONTHLY DISCHARGE MONITORING REPORTS
The United States Environmental Protection Agency requires all wastewater treatment systems to obtain a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit from their state regulatory agency for discharging treated effluent to state waters. The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) issues our permits that contain limits on our effluent parameters. The parameter results are reported monthly to ADEM on a Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR). ADEM evaluates each treatment plant independently when determining effluent parameters and limits by considering the assimilative capacity of the plant effluent's receiving stream.

Mobile Area Water & Sewer System's latest Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMR)are available in PDF *** format. Download them directly from here.

BIOSOLIDS PROGRAM
Biosolids is the term used for treated solids from a wastewater treatment plant. MAWSS has been involved in a Biosolids land application program since 1988. The biosolids undergo a treatment process that is regulated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) to stabilize the organic volatile solids and to reduce vector attraction. The farmlands that accept the biosolids are permitted by the USEPA to assure proper application location and rates. The biosolids are applied to pasture lands in liquid form for it's nutrient value. Biosolids are also a good soil conditioner.
