Lane Closure Scheduled for Alabama State Route 70 (Tanner Williams Road) Big Creek Lake Dam

MOBILE, AL. - Mobile Area Water and Sewer System (MAWSS) is performing a geotechnical/soil evaluation of the Big Creek Lake Dam. As an element of this evaluation, drilling will occur from the roadway on the dam's crest. This announcement serves as a notice that a lane closure is scheduled for AL-70/Tanner Williams Road in Mobile County, Alabama. The approximate duration of the closure will be one (1) week starting on or about July 17, 2023. The specific closure area will include a section of roadway across Big Creek Lake Dam extending approximately one-quarter mile east and west of the main dam.

Multiple segments of the East-bound or West-bound Lane within this area will be closed for the entire duration of the project.
Flaggers will be in place on both ends of the closure zone to allow traffic to move through the section (one direction at a time).
We will shift the limits of the closure zone during the project. Motorists need to be watchful for revised closure locations.
Traffic will be stopped briefly in both directions to allow construction vehicles to maneuver within the work zone as needed.

Watch for construction workers and equipment, be cautious, and drive slowly through the work zone. All scheduled work is subject to change depending on weather, geotechnical conditions encountered, and other factors beyond the control of the Alabama Department of Transportation, MAWSS, or Stantec.
