MAWSS Conducting Routine Hydrant Flushing in West Mobile

Mobile, Ala. – The Mobile Area Water & Sewer System (MAWSS) is currently conducting routine fire hydrant flushing in designated areas of West Mobile. Crews are actively working in the pink-highlighted zones on the attached service map.

The flushing area generally includes the surrounding neighborhood:

  • Zeigler Boulevard
  • Airport Boulevard
  • Snow Road (North and South)
  • Schillinger Road (North and South)
  • Howells Ferry Road
  • Old Shell Road
  • Cody Road (North and South)
  • Overlook Road
  • Tanner Williams Road
  • Dawes Road
  • Hillcrest Road
  • The Mobile Regional Airport corridor

Hydrant flushing is part of MAWSS preventative maintenance program and is essential to maintaining water quality and system reliability. The process helps:

  • Remove sediment from water mains
  • Verify proper hydrant operation
  • Maintain optimal chlorine residual levels
  • Ensure adequate fire flow capacity

What Customers May Notice

Customers in the affected areas may temporarily experience:

  • Slightly discolored water
  • Brief reductions in water pressure

These conditions are temporary and not harmful. If discoloration occurs, customers are advised to run cold water from a faucet for several minutes until it clears. Customers should also avoid washing light-colored laundry during active flushing hours.
