Heavy Rains Cause Wastewater Overflows

May 26th, 2026

Mobile Area Water and Sewer System (MAWSS) is currently experiencing a wastewater overflow, as a result of heavy rains. The overflow is being monitored. The affected waterway is Pierce Creek for 9220 Airport Blvd. The volume will be provided once the overflow have stopped.

MAWSS sewer system is designed to collect and convey wastewater to a MAWSS wastewater treatment plant. During heavy rains, storm water infiltrates and inundates aging sewer lines causing manholes to overflow. Health department precautions regarding contact with impacted waters and seafood preparation should be followed.
