Hurricane Boil Water Advisory Safety Information for MAWSS Customers

Oct 8th, 2026

Mobile Area Water & Sewer System (MAWSS) expects to provide continuous water and sewer service to customers during the storm. If drinking water contamination is indicated, health officials may issue a “Boil Water Order.”  Boiling water is an effective way to ensure it is safe to drink. When a Boil Water Order is issued, boil any water used for drinking for at least three minutes. If power is available, refrigerate the water after boiling. You can also disinfect water with chlorine tablets, iodine tablets, or unscented household chlorine bleach. However, these treatments only kill bacteria. If using chlorine bleach, add 1/8 of a teaspoon of bleach per gallon of water if the water is clear. If the water is cloudy, add ¼ teaspoon of bleach per gallon. Mix the solution completely and let it stand for about 30 minutes before use. The water should smell slightly of bleach. If not, discard it. The Boil Water Order will be lifted when it is determined that the water is safe to drink. MAWSS will share this information with local media, MAWSS social media, and its website. If you experience any service loss or observe any water or sewer system failure, call MAWSS at (251) 694-3165.
