MAWSS Releases Hydrant Flushing Routes for June 2024
Mobile, AL – Mobile Area Water & Sewer System will conduct a crucial maintenance operation by flushing fire hydrants in West Mobile. This process is designed to remove sediment from pipes and maintain clarity and quality in the distribution pipes. As a result, our customers may experience fluctuations in pressure and discolored water. While the water is not a health risk, we recommend refraining from drinking it until it runs clear. Using the water for showering, bathing, and toilet flushing is safe. However, we advise against using it immediately after flushing, as it may cause discoloration in your laundry.
If you notice discolored water after flushing, turn on several cold water taps in your home to allow new water to work its way into your pipes. Let the water run for several minutes until the discoloration is gone and the water runs clear. Customers may experience slight discoloration for a few hours in some infrequent cases. This discoloration only affects the appearance of the water; it does not affect the water quality or taste. If discoloration continues, please contact our customer care team at (251) 694-6135.
